Forgotten

The other day, I decided to put my old linux server back in service. Normally just plugging it in and switching it on would be enough. It wasn't.

I remembered after some troubleshooting that I'd sold my hard drive to Bryan to fix his pc. No, my server was not my server anymore. The core of its being torn from it, it was merely a blank slate now. My hard drive had a new life in a new place. It wouldn't even remember me if I went and rescued it.

In its place was a hard drive that was newer, bigger.......empty. I sat a quiet moment in remembrance of the pc that was, and cursed myself for getting into another rebuild.

The T9 Cometh

My new mobile phone has T9 text entry, and while it's nothing new it has quite an expanded word list. I've found it even contains the following words, which is quite surprising:

Doth
Cometh
Alas
Diggity (as in J-Diggity, you know who you are)
Google
Dingly (don't ask how I found this one)

It does not contain the word "sushi" though, and I find this disappointing.

A New Evil Close To Home?

The American people should be suspicious of this. To me, not caught up in the fear tactics of the Bush administration, this appears to be part of a larger plan to gradually erode people's rights and freedoms.

The end result, it would seem, is to have everyone surrender unconditionally to the state. If you study a bit of history, you'll find that that has been done before with some success.

Gratification?

Yesterday, my friend randomly commented to me about something on my blog page. It turns out she's read rather a lot of it. I had a reaction akin to catching a pervert looking into my bedroom window.

I mostly use my blog page to rant to the ether, but it's inevitable that someone will eventually read it. That said, this is only the second time I've had an unsolicited comment about it.

Since I'm past that now, if you have an opinion on something I write then please comment. Just click that button and blather away. That's all I do.

P.S., September 16, 2006: I really do like the feedback, so keep it coming. It wasn't meant to be a hurtful remark. I am, after all, a little attention whore. Keep it coming, y'all.

Computers Are Female

The Romantic languages define each and every noun as being either feminine or masculine. It's part of the flavour of the language, but it can leave one pondering as to how they decided the gender of something as androgenous as, for example, a toaster.

0wn3d by Microsoft(TM)

I like Microsoft Office and use it every day for email and what not, despite some of my misgivings about the Microsoft Corporation. It does the job, so I'm not prone to getting into major debates about Office vs. Lotus vs. OpenOffice, etc.

Guardian Unlimited Arts | | Paris Hilton, Paris Hilton

Furtherance of my theory that nobody but NOBODY says it like the British.

Side Note 1: If you watched "House Of Wax" and took an odd satisfaction in Miss Hilton's death, as did I, then you'll love this all the more.

Side Note 2: If you just knew that movie was going to stink so bad and succeeded in avoiding it, good on ya. Next time give me a heads-up.

US on red alert after foiling of ‘al-Qaeda plot’ – World – Times Online

Notice the quotes around 'al-Qaeda plot' everywhere and the fact that this is not an American publication. Are you afraid yet?

Note also that the 'alleged plot' is 'suggestive of an al-Qaeda plot'. Exotic dancers are suggestive too. That doesn't mean you'll be getting any of THAT later on, either.

al-Qaeda terrorists, THIS VERY MINUTE, are probably using your 4th grade chemistry set to do unspeakable things to your toothpaste. Better go take a look, and consider also checking under the bed too for good measure. Those guys are pretty sneaky.

Trouble in Paradise

She was a young beautiful Italian but, as with many a beautiful woman, her very presence meant trouble. She asked me to take off my pants. I complied without hesitation. She touched my bare skin...she took my picture...It was all over so fast...

I'll admit that having her for my x-ray technician today made it almost pleasant. On the other hand, dropping my drawers for the doctor was less of a treat. He bore a strong resemblance to Julian Richings.

In case you're not familiar with him, Mr. Richings is a very talented British actor who now makes Canada his home. Frankly though, he creeps me out, and he's played a doctor at least once which didn't do anything to prevent this tragic association.

You’re Not Alone

In a way, it's all a matter of time
I will not worry for you, You'll be just fine
Take my thoughts with you, and when you look behind
You will surely see a face that you recognize

You're not alone, I'll wait till the end of time
Open your mind, Surely it's plain to see
You're not alone, I'll wait till the end of time for you
Open your mind, Surely there's time to be with me

It is the distance, that makes life a little hard
Two minds that once were close, Now so many miles apart
I will not falter though, I'll hold on till you're home
Safely back where you belong, And see how our love has grown

You're not alone, I'll wait till the end of time
Open your mind, Surely it's plain to see
You're not alone, I'll wait till the end of time for you
Open your mind, Surely there's time to be with me
